Alcohol & Substance Free Accommodation offers students a lifestyle choice to live in an environment where all residents and their guests agree to keep the area free of alcohol, drug and tobacco products. This type of accommodations aims to:

  • Offer students the choice to live in accommodation which is conducive with study and rest.
  • To raise awareness around the value of refraining from alcohol for physical and mental wellbeing.
  • To make the campus and local environment safer from alcohol related harm.
  • To promote the health and wellbeing of students
  • To cater for diverse needs of students particularly cultural differences, religious beliefs, personal preferences, issues with addiction, medical grounds and avoiding the anti-social side of alcohol consumption.

This initiative is aligned to the DCU Healthy initiative which promotes the health and wellbeing of the DCU campus community and to establish DCU as a health promoting university. It is also part of the National REACT project which aims to respond to Excessive Alcohol Consumption in Third Level.

Alcohol Free accommodation will be available to select when you apply for accommodation and is subject to availability.
